This month's volunteer morning was a real scorcher! We had a very good turnout and got loads done. A small crack-team, armed with serious power tools, got to work on repairing the Hauswin while the rest of us sorted the willow maze. The maze had become overgrown and needed to be chain-sawed down to height. This left a lot of debris for us to clear up along with some tidying up of excess growth that survived the chainsaw. The maze is now ready to grow again and will be back better than ever before you know it. We also started removing some plastic protectors from the trees near the Hauswin. These protectors are crucial in the early stages of a tree's growth, but now they're big enough they can be taken away and recycled. As we went through the woods removing these sleeves, we stumbled across something very special: a Southern Marsh Orchid. As the name suggests, these beautiful flowers are rarely found away from marshland, so it's great to see one in Golden Wood. See if you can spot it next time you're there!
